42nd edition of the Pio Manzù International Conference
The 21st century is characterised by an ever-increasing involvement of women in the key sectors of our modern society. Sadly, we continue to see unacceptable forms of discrimination in all regions that deprive women of their fundamental human rights and of the equality and opportunity that they deserve.
Gender inequality limits development, because it compromises the possibility of rising above the poverty level and therefore jeopardizes sustainable growth. Thus, an improvement in the condition of women is a sine qua non for more effective development policies. The 2011 Conference of the Pio Manzù Centre got together in Rimini experts and decision makers from all over the world to take a step forward in the development of gender culture, not as a form of separatism between man and woman, but as a synthesis of unity in diversity.
